Benjamin Wallfisch (It, Shazam!, Blade Runner 2049, Hidden Figures, Lights Out) has been hired to score the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot. The film based on the popular video game franchise is directed by Simon McQuoid and stars Joe Taslim, Ludi Lin, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Chin Han, Hiroyuki Sanada, Max Huang, Sisi Stringer and Lewis Tan. No plot details have been announced yet. Greg Russo wrote the screenplay. James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring) is producing the New Line Cinema production with Todd Garner (Isn’t It Romantic, Tag). Wallfisch has previously scored the Wan-produced feature Annabelle: Creation, as well as several other movies produced by New Line, including both It chapters, Lights Out and Shazam!. Mortal Kombat is set to be released on January 15, 2021 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
