Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson are scoring the upcoming YouTube Red original series Cobra Kai. The show is developed by Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine), Jon Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg (Harold & Kumar series, American Reunion) and stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka who will reprise their roles from the 1984 original film. The series is set 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament and follows Johnny Lawrence as he seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo, reigniting his rivalry with a now successful Daniel LaRusso. Heald, Hurwitz & Schlossberg are also executive producing the Sony Pictures Television production with Overbrook Entertainment’s James Lassiter (Hitch, The Pursuit of Happyness) & Caleeb Pinkett (Annie, After Earth). Cobra Kai is expected to premiere later this year on YouTube Red.
Birenberg (Son of Zorn, Big Time in Hollywood, FL) & Robinson have previously co-scored YouTube Red’s Sing It! an last year’s teen comedy F*&% the Prom. Birenberg also has the romantic comedy Plus One coming up.
