Brian Byrne is composing the original music for the upcoming Irish drama Black 47. The film is directed by Lance Daly (Kisses) and stars Hugo Weaving, Jim Broadbent, Stephen Rea, James Frecheville, Freddie Fox, Moe Dunford and Barry Keoghan. The movie is set in Ireland during the Great Famine and follows an Irish Ranger who has been fighting for the British Army abroad, as he abandons his post to reunite with his family. Daly also co-wrote the screenplay with PJ Dillon, Pierce Ryan and Eugene O’Brien. Macdara Kelleher (What If, Strangerland) is producing the project with Tim O’Hair & Arcadiy Golubovich (A Hologram for the King) and Jonathan Loughran. Byrne has previously scored Daly’s 2011 feature he Good Doctor starring Orlando Bloom. Black 47 is expected to be released in 2018.
As previously reported, Byrne (Albert Nobbs, Boychoir) also has scored Jim Sheridan’s The Secret Scripture starring Rooney Mara, Eric Bana & Vanessa Redgrave. The movie, which premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival, opened in theaters overseas earlier this year and will be released in the U.S. on October 13, 2017 by Vertical Entertainment.
