Mychael Danna and Jeff Danna have been tapped to score the upcoming drama Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. The film is directed by Ang Lee and stars Joe Alwyn, Kristen Stewart, Chris Tucker, Garrett Hedlund, Vin Diesel and Steve Martin. The movie is based on Ben Fountain’s bestselling novel of the same title and follows the 19-year-old private Billy Lynn who, along with his fellow soldiers in Bravo Squad, return home temporarily for a victory tour after surviving an Iraq battle. Jean-Christophe Castelli has written the screenplay. Lee is also producing the project with Marc Platt (Bridge of Spies, Wanted, Legally Blonde), Rhodri Thomas and Stephen Cornwell (A Most Wanted Man, The Night Manager). Mychael Danna has previously collaborated with Lee on several films, including The Ice Storm, Ride with the Devil and Life of Pi, for which he received his first Academy Award. Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk will be released on November 11, 2016 by Sony Pictures. Visit the official movie website for updates.
The Danna brothers also have the animated feature Storks coming up. They are also co-scoring FX’s Tyrant, which will return for a third season this summer.
Really happy that Mychael Danna and Ang Lee have reunited after falling out on Hulk. That was an unfortunate situation but they make a great team. Their early collaborations were fabulous and Life of Pi was a wonderful reunion, looking forward to this next one with Jeff in tow!
All of the three scores Danna did for Lee are nothing sort of brilliant: Ice Storm, Ride with the Devil, Life of Pi… I’m sure this one will be great too.
I am still amazed that Mychael scored so few “big” movies after his Oscar win.
