WaterTower Music has announced a soundtrack album for the sci-fi action thriller Edge of Tomorrow. The album features the film’s original music composed by Christophe Beck (Frozen, The Muppets, The Hangover, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The soundtrack will be released on June 3, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips from the score after the jump. Edge of Tomorrow is directed by Doug Liman and stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic and Franz Drameh. The movie is set in the near future when an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault and follows an officer who finds himself reliving his last day over and over after being killed. Why do people complain about such amazing music?
Because it’s a lot easier to complain.
Now we understand why John Powell didn’t reunite with Doug Liman on this. I guess the musical direction the filmmakers chose wasn’t his cup of tea…
But Powell hasn’t worked on any of his other collaborators besides Pixar and Dreamworks over the past 3 years. And he can make modern scores with a style of his own.
I never doubted John Powell, I know he’s perfectly able to compose all kinds of filmmusic. Hearing this score, I doubt that the filmmakers gave a lot of artistic freedom to their composer, that’s why I said John Powell would not have been happy and I understand why he didn’t do it (even if I don’t even know if he had been asked to :p )
What on earth has happened to Christophe Beck here? And what is this noise? It’s a shame, because I actually like his work as a composer. He just seems to have been – like many others – conditioned in the ways of Remote Control. The future of film music is very bleak if this is all we are going to be hearing score after score.
Well, he’s not gonna compose music like for an animated children’s movie here, is he?
Never said he did. I was just bemoaning the fact that many composers today are under the influence of Zimmer’s Remote Control factory.
