Film Music Reporter has confirmed that Jonny Greenwood is composing the music for Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming crime drama Inherent Vice. The movie stars Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Jena Malone, Martin Short and Maya Rudolph. The film based on the 2009 novel by Thomas Pynchon is set in 1960s Los Angeles and follows the drug-fueled detective Larry “Doc” Sportello as he investigates the case of a kidnapped girl. Anderson is also producing the project through his Ghoulardi Film Co. alongside JoAnne Sellar (Magnolia, Boogie Nights) and Daniel Lupi (There Will Be Blood). Greenwood’s score will be recorded this month with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. The composer has previously written the music for Anderson’s last two features There Will Be Blood and The Master. Inherent Vice is expected to premiere later this year at one of the major film festivals and will be released in the U.S. by Warner Bros. Pictures.

This was pretty much confirmed a while back. Anyway, I am a fan of his previous Anderson collaborations: “There Will Be Blood” and “The Master:” scores that have transcended what we call “Minimalism.”
Look forward to October 2014 – the supposed month of release.
