Sony Masterworks has announced a soundtrack release for NBC’s live broadcast of the classic stage musical The Sound of Music. The album features the studio recordings of all the musical numbers performed in the live broadcast, including such songs as The Sound of Music, My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen and Climb Ev’ry Mountain, all of which are composed by Richard Rodgers and feature lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The soundtrack will be released on December 3, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. NBC’s The Sound of Music is a three-hour live production based on the classic Tony Award-winning musical and stars Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp, Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess, Stephen Moyer as Capt. Georg von Trapp, Christian Borle as Max Detweiler and Laura Benanti as Elsa Schrader. The television event is executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Chicago, Hairspray) and will air on December 5 on NBC. To learn more about the project, visit the network’s official website.
