Opening semi-wide in around 300 theaters is the  sci-fi thriller Hot Spot directed by Agnieszka Smoczyńska and starring Andrzej Konopka, Noomi Rapace, Reika Kirishima, Filippa Koutoupa, George Aurimas Cris and Niki Sereti. The film’s original music is composed by Marcin Macuk (Just One Look, Spider’s Web, The BreachTesciowie 2) & Zuzanna Wrońska (The Silent Twins). No soundtrack album has been released yet. Opening in Los Angeles and New York this weekend before expanding nationwide next Friday, August 28, is the horror thriller It Ends written and directed by Alexander Ullom and starring Phinehas Yoon, Akira Jackson, Noah Toth amd Mitchell Cole. Matthew Robert Cooper (Night Comes In, Home) has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The movie, which follows a group of recent grads who head out on a late night drive, hoping to enjoy one final hangout before their paths diverge, but accidentally end up on a never-ending, two lane hellscape with no exits, premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being released by Neon.

Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the Czech/German/Poland biographical drama Franz directed by Agnieszka Holland and starring Idan Weiss, Peter Kurth, Jenovéfa Boková, Sandra Korzeniak, Ivan Trojan, Katharina Stark, Sebastian Schwarz, Carol Schuler and Gesa Schermuly. The film’s original music is composed by Antoni Komasa-Łazarkiewicz (Copying BeethovenQuo Vadis, Aida?, In Darkness, Rosemary’s BabyIn the Rearview) and Mary Komasa (TreasureCracow Monsters, Lead Children, Charlatan). No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The movie, which follows the imprint of iconic 20th-century Czech writer Franz Kafka left on the world from his birth in 19th-century Prague to his death in post-WW1 Vienna, premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and is being distruibuted stateside by Cohen Media Group.

Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the French comedy drama The Marching Band (En fanfare) co-written and directed by Emmanuel Courcol and starring Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Lottin and Sarah Suco. Michel Petrossian (And the Party Goes On, La Pie voleuse) has composed the film’s original music. Plaza Mayor Company has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score back in 2024 when the movie opened in France. Another movie in select theaters is the documentary Never Stop Chasing directed by Ken Cole about storm chaser Reed Timmer and his crew who ppursue the world’s most powerful tornadoes.
