Arthur Sharpe (Landscapers, Guilt, The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, Ghosts, Flowers, Prime Target, Dreamland) has provided the original score for the upcoming drama Diary of a Mad Old Man. The film is directed by Wayne Wang (The Joy Luck Club, Maid in Manhattan) and stars Gabriel Byrne, Fan Bingbing and Lily Frank. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Jun’ichirō Tanizaki and follows an aging widower who gets drawn into an unnervingly intimate relationship with his caregiver daughter-in-law. Kelvin Wyles wrote the screenplay. Shôzô Ichiyama (Mountains May Depart, Caught by the Tides) is producing the project for Fourier Films, alongside Francey Grace (The Oh in Ohio, Unearthed) for Friendly Giant Pictures and Mike Goodridge (Sisu: Road to Revenge, Ballad of a Small Player) for Good Chaos. Diary of a Mad Old Man will premiere next month at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival.
Sharpe’s other recent projects include Molly Manners’ Extra Geography, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is expected to be released in UK theaters this fall.
