Cristobal Tapia de Veer (The White Lotus, Smile, Utopia, Babygirl, The Third Day, Lord of the Flies, The Girl with All the Gifts, National Treasure) has composed the original score for the upcoming Canadian comedy The Stunt Driver. The film is written and directed by Michael Dowse (Stuber, What If) and stars Jay Baruchel, Laurence Leboeuf, Ben Foster, Dan Bakkedahl and Ed Helms. The movie is set in the mid-70s and recounts the true underdog story of Ken Carter, the Canadian world champion stunt driver who battles personal demons and public doubt to attempt what everyone considers impossible – a mile-long jump across the St. Lawrence river in a rocket car. Dowse is also producing the Film Cardinal production with Jennifer Wilson. The Stunt Driver will premiere this September at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival and will be released in U.S. theaters on September 25 by the Independent Film Company.
Tapia de Veer’s other recent feature projects include Jordan Firstman’s Club Kid, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and is set to be released in theaters on November 6 by A24. He also composed the music for Pablo Trapero’s &Sons, which premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, and Osio Vanden’s & Jack Weisman’s Nuisance Bear, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Both films are currently awaiting release dates.
