Laura Karpman (American Fiction, Captain America: Brave New World, The Marvels, Miss Marvel, Down Cemetery Road, Paris Can Wait, What If…?, Duster, Marvel Zombies) has provided the originals score for the upcoming romantic comedy The Love Hypothesis. The film is directed by Claire Scanlon (People We Hate at the Wedding) and stars Lili Reinhart, Tom Bateman, Rachel Marsh, Jaboukie Young-White, Nicholas Duvernay and Arty Froushan. The movie is based on Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling novel of the same title and tells the story of a PhD candidate trying to find a cure for cancer as she devises a fake dating scheme with a doctor whose reputation precedes him when it comes to being hard on students.. Sarah Rothschild (The Sleepover) wrote the screenplay. Elizabeth Cantillon (Concussion, The Banger Sisters) and Jonathan Golfman are producing the project. Karpman has previously collaborated with Scanlon on the 2018 Netflix film Set It Up. The Love Hypothesis will premiere on September 23, 2026 exclusively on Prime Video.
Karpman’s other recent scoring projects include Liz Garbus’ & Elizabeth Wolff’s Billie Jean King documentary Give Me the Ball, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will debut later this year on ESPN. She has also composed the music for the documentary Miss Represenation: Rise Up directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom about the rising backlash against women’s progress and the hostile landscape of technology. The movie just premiered this month at the Tribeca Film Festival.
