Opening semi-wide in around 360 theaters is the Canadian mockumentary Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie co-written and directed by Matt Johnson and starring Johnson himself and Jay McCarrol (BlackBerry, The Kid Detective, Hell of a Summer, Operation Avalanche, The Dirties). McCarrol also co-wrote the screenplay and has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album is expected to be announced soon. The movie, which follows the lead characters as they accidentally travel back to the year 2008 when their plan to book a show at the Rivoli goes horribly wrong, premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being distributed stateside by Neon.

Johan Testad (The Sandhamn Murders, Beartown, Drifters, Inkognito).& Kaspar Kaae (In Order of Disappearance, Out Stealing Horses, Bordertown, A Good Family) have composed the film’s original music for the movie, which tells the true story of a Swedish bureaucrat who becomes an unlikely war hero as he attempts to save Jewish lives during the darkest days of WWII.
