ABC Classic has released a soundtrack album for the Australian stop-motion animated feature Memoir of a Snail. The album features the film’s original music written by composer and pianist Elena Kats-Chernin (best known for her ballet Wild Swans) and performed by the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Memoir of a Snail is written and directed by Adam Elliot and features the voices of Sarah Snook, Eric Bana, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jacki Weaver. The movie tells the story of lonely misfit with an affinity for collecting ornamental snails and an intense love for books who falls into a series of misfortunes after being separated from her twin brother and strikes up an enduring friendship with an elderly eccentric woman who is full of grit and lust for life. The animated feature, which premiered at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival, is opening in Australian theaters this coming weekend and will be released in U.S. theaters on October 25 by IFC Films.
