Dave Metzger (Wish, Brother Bear 2, Tarzan & Jane, Tarzan 2: The Legend Begins) is composing the original score for Disney’s The Lion King prequel Mufasa: The Lion King. The film is directed by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk) and stars Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Kagiso Lediga, Preston Nyman, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, John Kani, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Donald Glover, Blue Ivy Carter and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. As previously reported, Lin-Manuel Miranda is writing the movie’s songs produced by Mark Mancina and Miranda, with additional music and performances by Lebo M. Adele Romanski & Mark Ceryak (Aftersun, True Detective: Night Country) are producing the project. Disney has previously announced that Hans Zimmer, Nicholas Britell & Pharrell Williams were set to compose music for the film. Britell has reportedly starting working on his score, while Zimmer is believed to have dropped out of the project earlier before it went into production. Metzger has been recording his score in recent months in London. Mufasa: The Lion King will be released in theaters nationwide on December 20, 2024 by Walt Disney Pictures.
