Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech, The Shape of Water, The Queen, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Godzilla) has composed the original music for the upcoming sports drama Unstoppable. The film marks the directorial debut of editor William Goldenberg and stars Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Anthony Robles, Don Cheadle and Jennifer Lopez. The movie is based on the book Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion by Robles & Austin Murphy and tells the story of Robles who despite being born without a right leg and growing up in an abusive household rises to become a NCAA Division I champion wrestler. Eric Champnella, Alex Harris and John Hindman (The Answer Man) wrote the screenplay. Ben Affleck is producing the project for Artists Equity, alongside Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas (Hustlers, Mona Lisa Smile) for Nuyorican Productions, David Crockett (The Gilded Age, A Cure for Wellness) for Coonskin Cap, Andy Fraser (God Bless the Broken Road) for A Really Good Home Pictures, Gary Lewis, as well as Robles himself. Desplat has previously scored the Goldenberg-edited features Argo (directed by Affleck) and The Imitation Game, for both of which he received an Academy Award nomination. Unstoppable will premiere this September at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and will be released in select U.S. theaters this December by Amazon MGM Studios.
Desplat’s other recent projects include Ellen Kuras’ Lee, which will open in U.S. theaters on September 20, Michel Hazanavicius’ The Most Precious of Cargoes, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and will open in French theaters this fall, as well as Malcolm Washington’s The Piano Lesson, which will premiere at this year’s Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals before premiering later this year on Netflix.
