Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the disaster movie Twisters directed by Lee Isaac Chung and starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, Glen Powell, Nik Dodani, Sasha Lane, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, Kiernan Shipka and Daryl McCormack. The film’s original score is composed by Benjamin Wallfisch (It, Shazam!, The Flash, Blade Runner 2049, The Invisible Man, Hidden Figures). Back Lot Music will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music on August 2. Atlantic Records has released a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the movie today. Opening semi-wide in around 800 U.S. theaters is the Irish supernatural horror thriller Oddity written and directed by Damian Mc Carthy and starring Gwilym Lee, Carolyn Bracken, Tadhg Murphy, Caroline Menton, Steve Wall, Joe Rooney and Jonathan French. Richard G. Mitchell (A Good Woman, To Kill a King, Moby Dick, Grand Theft Parsons, Born American) has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is in the works. Opening in select theaters today is the historical drama Widow Clicquot written and directed by Thomas Napper and starring Haley Bennett, Tom Sturridge, Sam Riley, Anson Boon, Leo Suter, Ben Miles, Natasha O’Keeffe, Cecily Cleeve, Paul Rhys, Ian Conningham, Christopher Villiers, Cara Seymour and Mark Tandy. The film’s original music is composed by Bryce Dessner (The Two Popes, Cyrano, Sing Sing, Bardo, A Good Person, Irresistible, The Kitchen, Dandelion). No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Opening in New York today before expanding to more U.S. markets over the next couple of weeks is the documentary Hollywoodgate directed by Ibrahim Nash’at about his time spent with the Taliban in the wake of the United States withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 as they attempt to transform from a fundamentalist militia into a modern military regime, employing Hollywood-style propaganda. Volker Bertelmann (All Quiet on the Western Front, Lion, The Old Guard, Hotel Mumbai, One Life, Adrift, Ammonite, Patrick Melrose) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and is being distributed stateside by Fourth Act Film.
