Craig Armstrong (Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby, Love Actually, Romeo + Juliet, The Incredible Hulk, Ray, The Quiet American) is composing the original music for the upcoming British thriller The Critic. The film is directed by Anand Tucker (Hilary & Jackie, Shopgirl) and stars Gemma Arterton, Ian McKellen, Mark Strong, Lesley Manville, Romola Garai, Ben Barnes and Alfred Enoch. The movie based on Anthony Quinn’s classic novel Curtain Call is set in the theatre world in 1934 London and follows two adversaries who are forced to take desperate measures to save their careers. Patrick Marber (Notes on a Scandal, Closer) wrote the screenplay. BKStudios’ Bill Kenwright (Cheri, Off the Rails) is producing the project with Fearless Minds’ Jolyon Symonds (The Escapist, Soulmates). The Critic will premiere next month at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.
As previously reported, Armstrong also has Oliver Parker’s The Great Escapers (to be released in UK theaters this October) coming up.
