Volker Bertelmann (Conclave, Lion, All Quiet on the Western Front, Adrift, The Day of the Jackal, Pressure, A House of Dynamite, The Amateur, One Life) has composed the original music for the upcoming drama Borges and Me. The film is directed by Marc Turtletaub (Puzzle, Gods Behaving Badly) and stars Alan Cumming, Fionn Whitehead, Freya Mavor, Luis Gnecco, John Gordon Sinclair, Morven Christie, Peter Mullan and Stuart Bowman. The movie based on author Jay Parini’s memoir of the same name is set in the 1970s and follows a young Parini as a student who finds himself committed to driving a blind poet Jorge Luis Borges across the Scottish countryside. Oren Moverman (Rampart, The Messenger) wrote the screenplay. Turtletaub is also producing the Big Beach production with Tim Foley, Alex Polunin (Filipinana) and Michael B. Clark (Out of My Mind, Miss Stevens). Bertelmann has previously scored Turtletaub’s last feature, Jules. Borges and Me will premiere this weekend at the 2026 Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Bertelmann’s other recent/upcoming feature projects include Florian Zeller’s Bunker (to premiere next month at the Venice Film Festival) Paul Greengrass’ The Uprising (to open in theaters on September 11), Lena Stahl’s The Method (to open in German theaters on October 1), Michael Showalter’s Verity (to be released in theaters on October 2) and DC Studios’ Clayface (to be released theatrically on October 23).
