Director Shawn Levy (Deadpool vs. Wolverine, Night at the Museum) has revealed in a recent interview on the On Film…With Kevin McCarthy podcast that Thomas Newman (The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, Finding Nemo, 1917, Skyfall, Road to Perdition, Wall-E, Bridge of Spies) is set to compose the music for the upcoming feature Star Wars: Starfighter. The film is directed by Levy and stars Ryan Gosling, Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Simon Bird, Aaron Pierre, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings & Amy Adams. The movie will take place five years after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. No plot details have been announced yet. Jonathan Tropper (Your Friends & Neighbors, Warrior) wrote the screenplay. Levy is also producing the Lucasfilm production with Kathleen Kennedy (Jurassic Park, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial). Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled to be released on May 28, 2027 by Walt Disney Pictures.
Thomas Newman to Score Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’

No Christophe Beck this time? Newman is quite an unusual choice for this kind of project. But he handled two James Bond scores quite well, so I wish him all the best! Let´s wait and see…
Fun fact: John Williams let Thomas Newman orchestrate the music for Darth Vader’s death scene during the scoring of Return Of The Jedi, I think as a favor to his father Alfred.
He’s come a long way since 1983.
Amazing hire! Been waiting so long for Thomas Newman to enter this franchise!
