Over the last couple of days, Joseph Trapanese (Oblivion, The Witcher, The Greatest Showman, Shadow and Bone, Straight Outta Compton, The Raid: Redemption, G20) has been recording his score for the upcoming hybrid adult live-action/animated feature Animal Friends. The film is directed by Peter Atencio (Keanu) and stars Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, Dan Levy, Addison Rae, Lil Rel Howery and Ellie Bamber. The comedy follows two fugitive animals as they embark on an adventure across America, healing their friendship while being pursued by an equally “odd-couple” DEA agent and Fish & Wildlife ranger with something to prove. Kevin Burrows & Matt Mider (The Package, Gentlemen Lobster) wrote the screenplay. The project is produced by Legendary Pictures, Maximum Effort and Prime Focus Studios. Trapanese has previously scored Atencio’s last feature, The Machine. Animal Friends is scheduled to be released in theaters nationwide on May 1, 2026 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Trapanese also continues to score Netflix’s The Witcher, which will return for its fourth season this year and is also expected to return to score the second season of NBC’s Brilliant Minds.
