Composer Roque Banos (Don’t BreatheEvil Dead, In the Heart of the Sea, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, The Machinist, Come PlaySexy Beast) is reuniting with director J.J. Perry (Day Shift) on the upcoming post-apocalyptic sci-fi adventure Afterburn. The film starring Dave Bautista, Olga Kurylenko, Kristofer Hivju, Samuel L. Jackson and Daniel Bernhardt is based on the Red 5 comic/graphic novel series of the same name by Scott Chitwood & Paul Ens. The movie takes place after a massive solar flare destroys the Earth’s eastern hemisphere and follows an emboldened treasure hunter for hire who travels to Europe to uncover the coveted Mona Lisa, only to learn the world needs a hero more than it needs a painting. Matt Johnson (Into the Blue, Torque) and Nimrod Antal (Predators, Vacancy) wrote the screenplay. Neal H. Moritz (Fast & Furious, Sonic the Hedgehog), Christopher Milburn (An American Haunting, The Strangers: Chapter 1), Steve Richards (Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House, Come Away) and Toby Jaffe (Bloodshot, Blue Streak) are producing the Endurance Media and Original Films production. Banos has previously collaborated with Perry on the director’s last feature, The Killer’s Game. Afterburn is set to be released in U.S. theaters on August 22, 2025.

As previously reported, Banos’ other recent feature projects include Mercedes Bryce Morgan’s Bone Lake, which will open in U.S. theaters on October 10.
