Benjamin Backus (A Week Away) has composed the original score for the upcoming thriller Homestead. The film is directed by Ben Smallbone (Priceless) and stars Neal McDonough, Dawn Olivieri, Bailey Chase, Kearran Giovanni, Susan Misner and Tyler Lofton. The movie takes place after a nuclear bomb is detonated in Los Angeles and the nation devolves into unprecedented chaos and follows an ex-Green Beret and his family as they escape to The Homestead, an eccentric prepper’s fortress nestled in the mountains. Ben Kasica & Jason Ross wrote the screenplay based on the book Black Autumn by Jeff Kirkham & Ross. Smallbone & Kasica are also producing the project with Andrea Royer. Homestead will be released in theaters nationwide on December 20, 2024 by Angel Studios. A TV show (Homestead: The Series) that continues the story will debut on Angel.com following the film’s release.

Backus has also recently scored the upcoming military thriller Valiant One. The film marks the feature directorial debut of producer Steve Barnett (Journey to Bethlehem, Full of It) and stars Chase Stokes, Lana Condor, Desmin Borges and Callan Mulvey. The movie follows a team of US Army non-combat tech specialists on a routine mission that spirals into a fight for survival when their helicopter crashes deep within North Korean territory. Barnett also co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Tipton and is producing the project with Bernie Goldmann (300, Mirror Mirror) and Alan Powell. Valiant One will be released in theaters nationwide on January 31, 2025 by Briarcliff Entertainment.
