Zack Ryan (Full Circle, I Smile Back, Leavenworth, A Christmas Prince, Just Add Magic) is scoring the new Disney Channel/Disney+ original series Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. The show is based on the 2007 sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place (created by Todd Greenwald) and stars Janice LeAnn Brown, David Henrie, Max Matenko, Alkaio Thiele, Mimi Gianopulos and Taylor Cora. Selena Gomez and David Deluise will appear as guest stars in the comedy, which follows a powerful young wizard at the center of a mysterious prophecy who is sent to live in the mortal world with the only wizard teacher who can help her control her power: an adult Justin Russo.Jed Elinoff & Scott Thomas (Raven’s Home, Day of the Dead) serve as the project’s showrunners and are also executive producing the Disney Branded Television production with Gary Marsh (Descendants: The Rise of Red, Calendar Girl), Gomez, Henrie and Jonas Agin. Andy Fickman (She’s the Man, Race to Witch Mountain) directed and executive produced the pilot and is also directing multiple other episodes. Brown has recorded a new version of the original theme Everything Is Not What It Seems for the new show. Ryan has previously collaborated with Elinoff & Thomas on the Malibu Rescue films and TV series. The first two episodes of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will premiere tomorrow, October 29 on the Disney Channel and the first eight episodes will debut on Disney+ the following day.
Ryan’s other recent projects include Steven Soderbergh’s Presence, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and has been picked up by Neon for a release in theaters nationwide on January 17, 2025.
