Deadline is reporting that Dave Stewart (of Eurythmics) is writing original songs for the upcoming movie musical Ebony McQueen. He will also co-score the film with A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, The Hundred-Foot Journey, Couples Retreat). Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth, The Four Feathers) is set to direct the drama, which is based on Stewart’s album of the same name and is inspired by the rock musician’s 1960s-early ’70s teen years in the North East of England and the discs and soundtracks that sparked his journey to becoming a musician. Stewart is also writing the screenplay with Lorne Campbell, Selma Dimitrijević and Peter Souter and is producing the project with Trademark Films’ David Parfitt (Shakespeare in Love, The Father) and David Jacobson (The Falconer). Rahman has previously collaborated with Kapur on 2007’s Elizabeth: The Golden Age. No production start date has been set yet for Ebony McQueen.
