Premiering today is the MGM+ original documentary series Hollywood Black directed by Justin Simien and inspired by the book from historian Donald Bogle. Kris Bowers (Bridgerton, Green Book, King Richard, Secret Invasion, The Color Purple, Haunted Mansion, Space Jam: A New Legacy) has contributed the main titles theme and Camilo Forero (Beckham, Earthstorm) has composed the show’s original score for Bleeding Fingers Music. The 4-parter, which chronicles a century of the Black experience in Hollywood by unearthing personal stories from actors, writers, producers and directors who fought for their place on the page, will be available to stream exclusively on MGM+.
Premiering on Wednesday, August 14, is the Apple TV+ original series Bad Monkey developed by Bill Lawrence and starring Vince Vaughn, L. Scott Caldwell, Meredith Hagner, Rob Delaney, Michelle Monaghan, Alex Moffat, Natalie Martinez, Scott Glenn and Jodie Turner-Smith. The show’s original music is composed by Waz & Jamie Jackson (Cougar Town, Life Sentence, Bluff City Law, Surviving Jack, Rush Hour). WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as the Tom Petty covers created by the project by artists such as Eddie Vedder, Larkin Poe, Weezer, The War on Drugs & others on October 4. Premiering on Thursday, August 15, is the action comedy Jackpot! directed by Paul Feig and starring Awkwafina, John Cena, Donald Elise Watkins, Ayden Mayeri, Murray Hill, Sam Asghari and Simu Liu. Theodore Shapiro (Severance, The Devil Wears Prada, Ghostbusters, Tropic Thunder, Spy, Bombshell, Marley & Me) has composed the film’s original music.
