Disney announced at the studio’s presentation at D23 today that Nine Inch Nails will compose the music for the upcoming sci-fi sequel Tron: Ares. The film is directed by Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) and stars Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan and Gillian Anderson. The follow-up to Disney’s 1982 classic Tron (scored by Wendy Carlos) and 2010’s Tron: Legacy (scored by Daft Punk) follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings. Sean Bailey (Matchstick Men, Gone Baby Gone), Jeffrey Silver (300, Edge of Tomorrow), Justin Springer (Dumbo, Godmothered), Leto & Emma Ludbrook (WeCrashed) and Steven Lisberger are producing the project. Tron: Ares is set to be released on October 10, 2025 by Walt Disney Pictures.
Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross also have Luca Guadagnino’s Queer (to premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival and Scott Derrickson’s The Gorge coming up.
