Verve Records has released the original song Why I’m Here from the Netflix original film Shirley. The track is co-written (with PJ Morton) and performed by Grammy Award-winning jazz singer Samara Joy and is now available to stream on all major digital music services, including Amazon. Also listen to the song after the jump. A full soundtrack album featuring Tamar-kali’s original score from the movie will be released next month. Shirley is written and directed by John Ridley and stars Regina King (in the title role of politician Shirley Chisholm), Lance Reddick, Terrence Howard, Lucas Hedges, André Holland, Christina Jackson, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Michael Cherrie. The biographical drama will be released in select theaters on March 15 before premiering on March 22 exclusively on Netflix.
