Alejandro Amenábar is set to compose the music for the upcoming Spanish period adventure epic The Captive (El Cautivo). The filmmaker will also direct the movie, which will star Julio Peña and Alessandro Borghi and tells the origin story of Miguel de Cervantes, author of the iconic novel Don Quixote, who – at the age of 28 – was taken captive by the Moors in Algiers, leading to his creative birth. Fernando Bovaira (Biutiful, The Summer) is producing the project. Amenábar has previously composed the score for all of his features (including The Others, The Sea Inside & While at War, as well as Open Your Eyes & Thesis, both with Mariano Maríno) except Agora (scored by Dario Marianelli) and Regression (scored by Roque Banos). The Captive will start principal photography this April. A release in 2025 in Spain is expected. (Variety)
