Raphael Saadiq (Insecure, Lovecraft Country, Underground, Black Nativity, 61st Street, The After Party) has recently been scoring the upcoming dramatic thriller Freaky Tales. The film is written and directed by Ryan Fleck & Anna Boden (Captain Marvel, Half Nelson) and stars Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, Normani, Jay Ellis, Angus Cloud, Dominique Thorne and Jack Champion. The movie is set in Oakland in 1987 and is comprised of four interconnected stories: teen punks defend their turf against Nazi skinheads, a henchman gets a shot at redemption, a rap duo battles for hip-hop immortality and an NBA All-Star settles the score. Fleck & Boden are also producing the eOne and MACRO Film Studios production with Poppy Hanks (Blue Bayou, Raising Dion) and Jelani Johnson. Freaky Tales will premiere in January at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
