A24 announced today that John Carpenter (Halloween, Assault on Precint 13, The Fog, They Live), Cody Carpenter & Daniel Davies (Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends, Firestarter) have been tapped to score the upcoming comedy Death of a Unicorn. The film marks the directorial debut of producer Alex Scharfman (Resurrection, Blow the Man Down) and stars Jenna Ortega, Paul Rudd, Richard E. Grant, Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, Anthony Carrigan, Jessica Hynes, Sunita Mani and Stephen Park. The movie follows a father and daughter who accidentally hit and kill a unicorn on the way to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties. Scharfman also wrote the screenplay and is producing the project with Drew Houpt (Beach Rats, Selah and the Spades) & Lucas Joaquin (Love Is Strange, Little Men) for Secret Engine, alongside Tyler Campellone (Dream Scenario) and Lars Knudsen (Hereditary, Midsommar) for Square Peg, as well as Tim Headington (Hugo, Edge of Darkness) and Theresa Steele (The Green Knight, Miss Juneteenth) for Page of Ley Line Entertainment. Death of a Unicorn is expected to be released in 2024.
