Christopher Bear (of the indie rock band Grizzly Bear) (Past Lives, High Maintenance, Swallowed) has composed the original score for the upcoming comedy drama Mother Couch. The film is directed by Niclas Larsson and stars Ewan McGregor, Taylor Russell, Ellen Burstyn, Lara Flynn Boyle, F. Murray Abraham and Rhys Ifans. The movie is based on the novel Mamma I Soffa by Jerker Virdborg and centers on three estranged children who come together when their mother refuses to move from a couch in a furniture store. Sara Murphy (Licorice Pizza, If Beale Street Could Talk) is producing the Lyrical Media production with Alex Black (How to Blow Up a Pipeline), Ella Bishop and Pau Suris. Mother Couch will premiere next month at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and San Sebastian Film Festival.
Bear’s other recent projects also include Carter Smith’s The Passenger, which was released on VOD last week and will debut on MGM+ later this year, as well as Kristian Mercado’s sci-fi comedy If You Were the Last, which premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival and is currently awaiting a release date.
