Michael Abels (Get Out, Us, Nope, Bad Education, Allen v. Farrow, Breaking) is composing the original music for the upcoming drama The Burial. The film is directed by Maggie Betts (Novitiate) and stars Jamie Foxx, Tommy Lee Jones, Jurnee Smollett, Bill Camp, Mamoudou Athie, Dorian Missick, Amanda Warren, Pamela Reed, Billy Slaughter, Jim Klock and Alan Ruck. The movie is based on a New Yorker article by Jonathan Harr and follows a personal injury lawyer known for his impressive track record and unconventional approach who decides to help a funeral home owner save his family business from a predatory corporate behemoth. Doug Wright (Quills) wrote the screenplay. Foxx is also producing the Amazon Studios production with Datari Turner (Nine Days, They Cloned Tyrone), Bobby Shriver, Double Nickel Entertainment’s Adam Richman & Jenette Kahn (The Book of Henry) and Maven Pictures’ Trudie Styler (Moon, Freak Show) and Celine Rattray (The Kids Are All Right, Bernie). The Burial is expected to premiere later this year.
Abels’ other recent projects include Corey Finley’s Landscape with Invisible Hand, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released in theaters on August 18 by United Artists/MGM.
