J.A. Bayona (The Impossible, The Orphanage) has announced that Michael Giacchino (Up, Lost, The Incredibles, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Ratatouille, Doctor Strange, The Batman) is scoring the director’s upcoming Spanish Netflix original film Society of the Snow (La sociedad de la nieve). The drama starring Enzo Vogrincic Roldán, Agustín Pardella, Tomas Wolf, Matías Recalt, Diego Ariel Vegezzi, Francisco Romero, Esteban Kukuriczka, Rafael Federman, Felipe González Otaño & Agustín Della Corte is based on the book of the same title by Pablo Vierci and tells the true story of the 1972 air crash in the Andes that forced its survivors to highly extreme measures. Bayona also co-wrote the screenplay with Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques & Nicolás Casariego. Belén Atienza (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) and Sandra Hermida (The Innocent, Automata) are producing the project. Giacchino has previously scored Bayona’s last feature, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Society of the Snow is expected to premiere this fall on Netflix.
Giacchino’s other recent projects include Taika Waitit’s Next Goal Wins, which is scheduled to open in theaters on November 17, 2023. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score will be released by Lakeshore Records. He is also attached to direct and score the monster movie Them! and to compose the music for Brad Bird’s animated feature Ray Gunn.
