Composer Michael Giacchino (Up, Lost, Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Batman, Jurassic World, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) is reteaming with Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, What We Do in the Shadows) on the upcoming sports comedy drama Next Goal Wins. The film starring Michael Fassbender, Elisabeth Moss, Will Arnett, Oscar Kightley, David Fane, Lehi Falepapalangi, Beulah Koale, Semu Filipo, Uli Latukefu & Angus Sampson is based on the 2014 documentary of the same title and tells the true story of Dutch coach Thomas Rongen as he attempts the nearly impossible task of turning the American Samoa soccer team from perennial losers into winners. Waititi is directing the movie and also co-wrote the screenplay with Iain Morris (The Inbetweeners). Film Rites’ Garrett Basch (Devs, Those Who Wish Me Dead) is producing the project with Imaginarium Productions’ Jonathan Cavendish (Bridget Jones’s Diary, Elizabeth: The Golden Age), and Archer’s Mark Mike Brett & Steve Jamison who served as producers on the documentary. Giacchino has previously scored Waititi’s last two features, Jojo Rabbit and Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder, which will be released on July 8. The composer has confirmed his involvement during an appearance on Billy Boyd’s & Dominic Monaghan’s The Friendship Onion Podcast. Next Goal Wins is expected to be released this fall by Searchlight Pictures.

Giacchino’s other recent projects include Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World: Dominion, which is being released in theaters this weekend and Pixar’s Lightyear, which will open in theaters next Friday, June 17.
