Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Black Widow, Top Gun: Maverick, Black Adam, His Dark Materials, The LEGO Batman Movie) has composed the original score for the upcoming Netflix original film Luther: The Fallen Sun. The movie is a continuation of BBC’s Luther TV series (scored by Paul Englishby), which ran between 2010 and 2019, and stars Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis and Dermot Crowley. The crime drama directed by Jamie Payne (The White Princess) and written by series creator Neil Cross (Mama, The Mosquito Coast) follows brilliant but disgraced London police detective John Luther as he breaks out of prison to hunt down a sadistic serial killer. Elba and Cross are also producing the project with Peter Chernin (The Greatest Showman, War for the Planet of the Apes), Jenno Topping (The Heat, Spy) and David Ready (Red Sparrow, Fear Street). Luther: The Fallen Sun will be released in select theaters on February 24, 2023 before premiering on March 10 on Netflix.
Balfe’s other recent/upcoming feature projects include John Francis Daley’s & Jonathan Goldstein’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle, Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 & 2 and Jon S. Baird’s Tetris.
I wish this guy went on a vacation for at least five years.
Most versatile composer working in the industry.
Hope he doesn’t take a holiday for a long time!!!
Balfe is talented, but a couple of the scores he’s done lately (particularly “Black Adam”) have felt a little rote and paint-by-numbers, so a few months’ vacation wouldn’t be the worst idea.
The Black Adam score was fantastic.Didn’t like the film but Balfe managed to creat a memorable theme and epic score.
