Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) (Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool, Sonic the Hedgehog, Alita: Battle Angel) is reteaming with Zack Snyder on the upcoming Netflix original film Rebel Moon. The movie starring Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Bae Doona, Michiel Huisman, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam and Anthony Hopkins follows a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrant. The space opera centers on a young woman with a mysterious past as she seeks out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand. Snyder also co-wrote the screenplay with Kurt Johnstad (300, Atomic Blonde) and Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Day Shift). He is also producing the project with Deborah Snyder (Wonder Woman, Man of Steel), Wesley Coller (Army of Thieves) and Eric Newman (Narcos, Bright). Holkenborg has previously scored the Snyder-directed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League and Army of the Dead, and the Snyder-produced 300: Rise of an Empire. Rebel Moon will premiere on December 22, 2023 on Netflix.
Also coming up for Holkenborg are Adam Wingard’s Godzilla vs. Kong sequel (to be released on March 15, 2024) and George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa (scheduled to open in theaters on May 24, 2024).
