Deadline is reporting that Michael Giacchino (Up, Lost, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Jurassic World, Doctor Strange, Ratatouille, The Batman, The Incredibles) will make his feature directorial debut on a reboot of the 1954 monster movie Them! for Warner Bros. Pictures. He is also planning to score the remake of the Gordon Douglas-directed and Bronislau Kaper-scored film, which centers on the discovery of a huge nest of irradiated ants are in the New Mexico desert that becomes a national threat when two young queen ants and their consorts escape to set-up new nests. Giacchino has previously directed last year’s Marvel Studios special presentation Werewolf by Night (which he also scored), the short Monster Challenge and an episode of Paramount+’s Star Trek: Short Treks. Them! is currently in development.
Giacchino also has Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins (currently scheduled to be released in theaters on September 22, 2023) coming up and is also attached to compose the music for Brad Bird’s animated feature Ray Gunn.
Great news! I am very excited that Giacchino continues to realize his potential as a director. His work on Werewolf by Night was insane.
