MovieScore Media has released a soundtrack album for the Australian period drama The Drover’s Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson. The album features the film’s original music composed by Salliana Seven Campbell. The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon (and any other major digital music services), where you can also check out audio samples. The Drover’s Wife is written and directed by Leah Purcell and stars Purcell herself, Rob Collins, Sam Reid and Jessica de Gouw. The movie follows a mother and her children who struggle in isolation to survive the harsh Australian landscape, when she finds a shackled Aboriginal fugitive wounded on her property and forms an unlikely bond with him. The drama, which first premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival, opened in Australian and UK theaters earlier this month and has been picked up by Samuel Goldwyn Films for a domestic release later this year.

  2. Louise says:

I thought the same thing – it’s a beautiful song and YES, BEST movie in 2022. I’ve done some research – it’s an old Celtic folk song and it’s called “Black is the colour”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1m2QL5n61I

  3. Just enjoyed watching this Film & thought I know that song sung by the little boy, it was then sang again professionally as the Theme Song at the end, its loosely based on an old Folk Song, but the closest version to the one in the Film is my favourite..”Black”..by The Throb…a 60s Aussie Band…based on…Black Is The Colour Of My True Loves Hair…not sure if a bit of plagiarism going on there HaHa…a nice version sang by Salliana Seven Campbell

  4. Janet says:

“Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair”. I recognized the words from The So g of Solomon in the Old Testament. I too am as struck by the beauty of the words and the song. Apparently this song was done by Judy Collins back at one time. Is it an old folk tune? I do t know it I’m trying to find out who did it in the movie. Great movie.

    • Janet says:

Oops I was wrong about the Song of Solomon. That song though, is an old folk song apparently and the rendition in the movie was beautiful, I think.
