Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, Babel, The Motorcycle Diaries, 21 Grams) & Tim Davies (Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia) have teamed up to compose the music for the upcoming Netflix animated limited series Maya and the Three. Santaolalla is providing the themes and Davies is composing the original score for the show created, executive produced and directed by Jorge R. Gutierrez. The 9-parter tells the story of a warrior princess who embarks on a quest to fulfill an ancient prophecy and save humanity from the vengeful gods of the underworld. Gutiérrez also co-wrote the series with Silvia Olivas, Doug Langdale (The Adventures of Puss in Boots, Cleopatra in Space) and Candie Kelty Langdale. Santaolalla & Davies have previously collaborated on the score for Gutierrez’s feature The Book of Life. Maya and the Three will premiere later this year on Netflix.
Santaolalla’s other upcoming projects include Finch (to premiere on Apple TV+ later this year) and HBO’s The Last of Us TV series. He also continues to co-score Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico (with Kevin Kiner).
