Composer Hanan Townshend (Knight of CupsTo the Wonder, Outcry, Semper Fi) is reteaming with director Julio Quintana on the upcoming Netflix original film Blue Miracle. The movie starring Jimmy Gonzales, Dennis Quaid, Anthony Gonzalez, Bruce McGill, Raymond Cruz, Miguel Angel Garcia, Nathan Arenas, Isaac Arellanes, Steve Gutierrez, Dana Wheeler-Nicholson, Fernanda Urrejola and Silverio Palacios tells the true story of a guardian and his kids who partner with a washed-up boat captain for a chance to win a lucrative fishing competition in order to save their cash-strapped orphanage. Quintana also co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Dowling (Run the Race, Priceless). Ben Howard is producing the drama for Third Coast Content, alongside Javier Chapa for Mucho Mas, Darren Moorman for Reserve Entertainment, as well as Chris George. Townshend has previously collaborated with Quintana on the 2016 feature The Vessel. Blue Miracle will premiere on May 27, 2021 exclusively on Netflix.

Townshend’s other recent scoring projects include the Terrence Malick-produced The Book of Vision, which premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival Critics Week and is currently awaiting a release date. The composer also has the documentary Fathom directed by Drew Xanthopoulos (The Sensitives) coming up. The film produced by Megan Gilbride (Tower) follows Dr. Michelle Fournet and Dr. Ellen Garland deciphering the complex communication of whales to uncover a culture in the oceans older than humankind. The movie is set to premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and will premiere on June 25, 2021 on Apple TV+.
