Howe Records will release a soundtrack album for the drama Funny Boy. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings, The Silence of the Lambs, The Aviator, Hugo, The Hobbit, Ed Wood, Mrs. Doubtfire). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, December 10 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and other digital music stores. Funny Boy is co-written and directed by Deepa Mehta and stars Brandon Ingram, Nimmi Harasgama, Ali Kazmi, Rehan Mudannayake, Agam Darshi, Shivantha Wijesinha, Arush Nand, Ruvin De Silva, Hidaayath Hazeer and Seema Biswas. The movie based on the best-selling Canadian novel of the same title by Shyam Selvadurai is set in Sri Lanka in the 1970’s and 80’s and explores the awakening of sexual identity by a young boy and chronicles his struggle to find balance and self-love despite the absence of empathy and understanding. The drama, which has been selected as Canada’s entry for the Best International Feature category at next year’s Academy Awards, has been picked up by ARRAY Releasing for domestic distribution (and is receiving a limited theatrical release in select cities this month) and will premiere tomorrow on Netflix.
