Director Christopher McQuarrie confirmed on the latest episode of the Light the Fuse podcast that Lorne Balfe will be returning as the composer for the next two installments in the Mission: Impossible series. Tom Cruise, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson and Vanessa Kirby are reprising their roles from the previous movies in the sequels, which will be written and directed by McQuarrie. They are joined by new cast members Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham and Nicholas Hoult. Balfe has previously scored Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout, while Joe Kraemer composed the music for the director’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. Mission: Impossible 7 is set to be released on November 19, 2021 and Mission: Impossible 8 will be released on November 4, 2022 by Paramount Pictures.

Balfe’s other upcoming feature projects include Marvel’s Black Widow and the animated movie Rumble.

  1. Brian says:

Balfe is AMAZING . So happy he is composing the next Mission Impossible

  2. Simon says:

Great to see Balfe is on board for Mission Impossible again

  3. Anton says:

Lorne Balfe creates the best Mission Impossible soundtrack ever

  4. I always knew he’ll be back.

  5. Tomas says:

Fallout was the best score of the franchise.Lorne Balfe is now A list composer and I look forward to Black Widow.

  6. Mark says:

How many accounts has Lorne Balfe got on here? (See the above comments.) Balfe’s score for Fallout worked in the film on a surface level, but was the most generically bland score of the series, and far too obviously “inspired” by The Dark Knight (which was no doubt all.over the temp track). This is hugely disappointing news, especially considering Kramer wasn’t asked to return for Fallout, supposedly because McQuarrie wanted each of his films in the series to have a different style.

    • Colt says:

I very much agree. They definitely should have gone with another composer for the next two movies. I would have very much liked someone like Thomas Newman or David Arnold for the 7th, and someone like John Powell for the 8th.

  7. BB says:

    The WORST “composer” EVER!

    • Simon P says:

Glad to see Lorne Balfe will be back for Mission Impossible

  8. Roman says:

    McQuarrie is musically handicapped

    • Mike says:

If he is the worse composer ever why the hell is he the busiest !!!!
I think Fallout was a great film and the music was perfect for it

  9. Sergey Dimidenko says:

Hells Yes! Ive had his Fallout score on repeat since the movie came out. This is the best news ever! I got kinda worried that he might not get brought back due to scheduling conflicts or maybe something else. Thank goodness!
