Academy Award winner Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, Babel, 21 Grams, The Motorcycle Diaries, The Book of Life) has been tapped to score the upcoming sci-fi drama BIOS. The film is directed by Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones, Repo Men) and stars Tom Hanks, Caleb Landry Jones, Samira Wiley, Laura Harrier and Skeet Ulrich. The movie is set in a post-apocalyptic world and follows an ailing inventor who builds a robot to keep his beloved dog safe and embarks upon an epic cross-country journey to teach his creation to become “human.” Craig Luck and Ivor Powell wrote the screenplay. Powell is also producing the Amblin Entertainment production with Kevin Misher (The Scorpion King, Public Enemies), as well as ImageMovers’ Jack Rapke (Cast Away, What Lies Beneath) and Jackie Levine (Project Blue Book, Manifest). Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump) serves as an executive producer. BIOS is currently scheduled to be released on October 2, 2020 by Universal Pictures.
Santaolla also continues to co-score Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico, which is expected to be renewed for a third season. The composer also has the Spanish Amazon original series El Cid and HBO’s The Last of Us TV series coming up.
