Mark Mothersbaugh (Thor: Ragnarok, The LEGO Movie, 21/22 Jump Street, The Royal Tenenbaums, Hotel Transylvania) has recently recorded his score for the upcoming animated feature The Willoughbys. The film is directed by Kris Pearn & Cory Evans and features the voices of Will Forte, Alessia Cara, Ricky Gervais, Terry Crews, Maya Rudolph, Jane Krakowski and Martin Short. The movie is based on based on the children’s book of same name by Lois Lowry and tells the story of four children abandoned by their selfish parents who learn how to adapt their old-fashioned values to the contemporary world. Pearn also wrote the screenplay. Aaron L. Gilbert (Bombshell, Tully) and Luke Carroll & Brenda Gilbert (Henchmen) are producing the project for BRON Animation. Mothersbaugh has previously collaborated with Pearn on Sony Pictures Animation’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. The Willoughbys will premiere on April 22, 2020 exclusively on Netflix.
Mothersbaugh also continues to score Netflix’s animated series Disenchantment, which will return for its second season later this year and will also compose the music for the second season of Dirty John, which is expected to premiere later this year on USA. He also recently co-scored the Netflix docu-series Tiger King with John Enroth and Albert Fox. The Rebecca Chaiklin- & Eric Goode-directed show, which tells the true murder-for-hire story about a zoo owner who spirals out of control amid a cast of eccentric characters, premiered last Friday and is now available to stream on Netflix.
