Nathan Barr (True Blood, The Americans, The House with a Clock in Its Walls, Hostel, Cabin Fever) is composing the original music for the upcoming Hulu original series The Great. The show is created by Tony McNamara (The Favourite) and stars Elle Fanning in the title role, as well as Nicholas Hoult, Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi and Belinda Bromilow. The comedy drama follows the unlikely rise and spectacular reign of feminist trailblazer Catherine the Great, the longest running female leader in Russian history. McNamara is executive producing the Civic Center Media and MRC Television production with Fanning, Marian Macgowan (Death Dying Acts), Josh Kesselman (For a Good Time, Call…) Ron West (Man Up!), Brittany Kahan Ward, Doug Mankoff & Andrew Spaulding (The Ward, The Joneses), Mark Winemaker (Warehouse 13) and Matt Shakman (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia). The Great is set to premiere on May 15, 2020 exclusively on Hulu.

Barr has also recently scored the Blumhouse thriller The Hunt, which just opened in theaters this past weekend, as well as Alan Ball’s drama Uncle Frank, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Amazon Studios for a release later this year. The composer also has Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Hollywood coming up and will also return to score the second season of Amazon’s Carnival Row.
