Antonio Pinto (City of God, McFarland, USA, Lord of War) has recently scored the Brazilian biographical drama Marighella. The film marks actor Wagner Moura’s directorial debut and stars Seu Jorge, Adriana Esteves, Bruno Gagliasso, Luiz Carlos Vasconcelos and Humberto Carrão. The movie tells the story of Carlos Marighella, a Marxist Brazilian writer, politician and guerilla fighter who lived during the 20th century and was murdered by the brazilian military dictatorship in 1969. Moura also co-wrote the screenplay with Felipe Braga and is producing the project with Fernando Mereilles (City of God, The Constant Gardener), Bel Berlinck & Andrea Barata Ribeiro. Marighella will premiere next week at the 2019 Berlin Film Festival.
Pinto has also recently composed the music for Chiwetel Ejiofor’s The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, which just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and be released on Netflix and select theaters on March 1. Also coming up for the composer is the documentary Maradona directed by Asif Kapadia (The Warrior, The Return) about celebrated football player Diego Maradona. James Gay-Rees (The Quiet Ones) and (Ronaldo) are producing the project. Pinto has previously scored Kapadia’s last two feature documentaries Senna and Amy. Maradona is expected to premiere later this year.
