Producers Anita Greenspan and pro-skater Tony Hawk with executive producer Adam Zotovich announced today that a new musical adaptation of the 2007 Nick Hornby (About a Boy, High Fidelity) novel, SLAM, is in development. Film composer Mark Mothersbaugh (Thor: Ragnarok, The LEGO Movie, 21/22 Jump Street, The Royal Tenenbaums) is writing the music and lyrics for the project, which will feature a book by Kyle Jarrow (SpongeBob SquarePants the Musical). Hawk, who is featured as a character in the novel, is a producer on the project and is slated to develop skate choreography. The rest of the creative team will be announced soon. SLAM is currently aiming for the 2020-2021 Broadway season.

Mothersbaugh also has the animated sequel The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and is also expected to return to score the second seasons of Netflix’s Disenchantment and Bravo’s Dirty John, which just finished its first season run this past Sunday.
