Theodore Shapiro confirmed in a recent interview with Next Best Picture that he will reunite with director Jay Roach (Austin Powers, Meet the Parents) on the currently untitled drama about disgraced former Fox News chief Roger Ailes and the women who brought him down (also known under the working title Fair and Balanced). The movie stars John Lithgow as Ailes, alongside Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, Charlize Theron, Allison Janney, Kate McKinnon, Malcolm McDowell, Mark Duplass, Alice Eve, Alanna Ubach, Elisabeth Röhm, Spencer Garrett, Connie Britton and Ashley Greene. Charles Randolph (The Big Short, The Interpreter) wrote the screenplay and is also producing the Bron Studios production with Roach, Beth Kono & AJ Dix (Atomic Blonde, Tully) and Margaret Riley. Shapiro has previously collaborated with Roach on the features Trumbo, Dinner for Schmucks, The Campaign and the HBO movie Game Change. Lionsgate has picked up domestic distribution rights for the project and is expected to release the film in late 2019.
Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) also revealed that he will be scoring the upcoming holiday romantic comedy Last Christmas directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat) and starring Emilia Clarke, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh and Emma Thompson who also co-write the screenplay with Bryony Kimmings. Feig is also producing the project with Thompson, Jessie Henderson and David Livingstone (Pride). Shapiro has previously scored Feig’s last three features, Spy, Ghostbusters and this year’s A Simple Favor. Last Christmas is set to be released on November 15, 2019 by Universal Pictures.
Shapiro’s other upcoming projects include Blue Sky Studios’ animated feature Spies in Disguise (set to be released on September 13, 2019). The composer also has recently scored Karyn Kusama’s Destroyer, which will be opening in select theaters on December 25 by Annapurna Pictures.
