Theodore Shapiro has been tapped to score the upcoming animated comedy Spies in Disguise. The film is directed by Nick Bruno & Troy Quane and features the voices of Will Smith and Tom Holland. The movie is based on the 2009 short Pigeon: Impossible and revolves around a secret agent who nearly triggers a global conflict when a pigeon gets stuck in a government-issued nuclear briefcase. Michael J. Travers (The Peanuts Movie) is producing the Blue Sky Studios production. Spies in Disguise is set to be released on April 19, 2019 by 20th Century Fox.

Shapiro is also reteaming with director Karyn Kusama on the upcoming thriller Destroyer. The film starring Nicole Kidman, Tatiana Maslany, Sebastian Stan, Bradley Whitford, Toby Kebbell and Scoot McNairy centers around an LAPD detective whose undercover work with a California gang as a younger cop has tragic repercussions later in her life and career. Phil Hay & Matt Manfredi (Ride Along, Clash of the Titans) wrote the screenplay and is also producing the project with Fred Berger (La La Land). Shapiro has previously scored Kusama’s Girlfight and The Invitation. Destroyer will be distributed in the U.S. by Annapurna Pictures. No release date has been announced yet.

The composer has also recently recorded his score for the upcoming thriller A Simple Favor. The film is directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) and stars Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Linda Cardellini, Jean Smart and Rupert Friend. The movie follows a mommy vlogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her best friend’s sudden disappearance from their small town. Shapiro has previously scored the director’s last two features Spy and Ghostbusters. A Simple Plan will be released on September 14, 2018 by Lionsgate.
