Will Bates is scoring the new CW drama Charmed. The show is developed by Jessica O’Toole & Amy Rardin and Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin) based on the series, which premiered in 1998 on The WB, and stars Melonie Diaz, Sarah Jeffery, Madeleine Mantock, Ser’Darius Blain, Ellen Tamaki and Rupert Evans. The series follows three sisters in a college town who are stunned to discover they are witches and must stand together to fight the everyday and supernatural battles that all modern witches must face: from vanquishing powerful demons to toppling the patriarchy. O’Toole, Rardin & Snyder Urman are also executive producing the CBS Television Studios and Propagate Content production with Ben Silverman (The Office, Ugly Betty), Howard Owens, Carter Covington (Faking It), as well as Brad Silberling (City of Angels, Casper) who also directed the pilot episode. The original WB Charmed series was scored by composers including Jay Gruska, J. Peter Robinson and Tim Truman. He also recently scored the documentary Divide and Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes, which premiered last month at the Toronto Film Festival and has been picked up by Magnolia Pictures for a theatrical release before premiering on A&EThe composer also continues to score Syfy’s The Magicians and Starz’s Sweetbitter.
